METHODIST CONFERENCE
BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. AVELLINGTON, March 3. At the Methodist Conference to-day, considerable time was devoted to a debate regarding the Voting People's department. All Church leaders and circuits are asked to co-operate for a period of years in order to establish the work.
The Conference placed on record it's •appreciation of the work of the llev. K. P. Bhnnires, organising secretary of the department, who was reierred to as second to none in the Dominion i young people's work. m The Conference passed a resolution
sympathising with .Sunday schools and junior-juvenile Biolo classes in the conditions existing owing to the epidemic, •and urged upon officers and teachers while the schools are closed to use every -means available by home visitation and through the post to keep in contact with the scholars.
On the report on the Theological
College, Dr. Laws delivered an impassioned speech on necessity of intellectual ability, knowledge of modern conditions, and sympathy with the unchurched masses as a buck-ground to any successful ministry. He pleaded most eloquently for the proposals on behalf of the new College scheme, estimated to cost £30,000. whirli will make provision for students tor various professions as well as students tor the Ministry. The sum of £IO.OOO already was in hand, and several substantial Bums were promised. A proposal on behalf of the scheme was adonted and permission given to deal with the architect? in connexion with the building.
