MINISTERIAL VISIT.

Sir James Parr, Minister of Education and .Justice, arrived from the north by motor on Saturday afternoon at 4.415 o’clock. The party stayed at Keller’s Hotel. In addition to Sir James, Lady Parr. Jack, Chairman of School Committee; and other local officials. Shortly after general introductions, the Minister accompanied h.v the local representatives visited Victoria State School. At the school the building and grounds were inspected, the local committee asking for attention to the exterior. 'l’he principal matter was the drainage and levelling of the ground. The A 1 iiiister promised a subsidy of £2OO, C. for £. for the improvement of the grounds. lion Alichel. Chairman of the High School Board, discussed with the Alinister. questions affecting the wiping out of the local Board. The .Minister produced the departmental statement on the matter, which he handed to Air Alichel, and asked the Board to reply to the questions raised. The Atinister intimated if the Board were dispensed with, something better would he given in its place . At Kumara on Saturday afternoon, the Minister inspected the school building. which the local Committee desired toliave rebuilt. The Minister favoured repairing the building, but the matter is to be gone into further. On arrival here a request was put to the Minister to arrange for a public address by Air Tate on educational matters on the return from South Westland. but Sir James regretted there would not be time, as tbe party was due back in Christchurch on Thursday or Friday at the latest.

The Ministerial party left yesterday morning for AVailio Gorge, and are due back on Tuesday.
