HON. W. F. MASSEY
AIAKES ■SATISFACTORY PROGRESS AYKI.LINGTON. February 27. As evidence of his satisfactory progress ah I<t convalescence the- Priinie Minister this morning made his first public appearance since the arrival of the Governor-General 011 December 13, and paid a visit to the Union Company's new motor ship Aorangi. Arrangements were made for Air Afassev’s ear to drive the length of the wharf front so that lie might be able to get a good external view of the new ship, the climb up the gangway being considered too formidable a task for him to u: d rtako so s-joii. During Air Massey's stay on the wharf lie held quite a levee, many old friends and other people being pleasantly surprised to see him about once again. Air Massey expressed himself in terms of highest admiration of the ship, and commended the enterprise of the Union Steam Ship Company in providing such a magnificent vessel for the New Zealand ser-
After leaving the wharf Air Massey caled 011 Lord and Lady Alaelay at the Midland Hotel. It was Lord Alaelay. who, as Sir Joseph Alaelay, head of the Ministry of Shipping during, the war period, did so much in seeing that a sufficient supply of shipping was available to convey New Zealand troops and produce to the United Kingdom. Air Alassey worked in closest co-operation with Lord Alaelay during his varioue visits to England, and recently, when it was announced Lord Mac-lay intended -visiting New Zealand, the Prime Alinister paid a high and graceful tribute to bis great services on behalf of the Dominion in the dark days of the war. As Mr Massey’s convalescence progresses he hopes to get out frequently for motor drives. Although to-day he was showing the effects of the acute sciatica from which he has been sufferin.d it was a matter of general remark how well lie was looking in the circumstances.
