AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION EXPORT OF GOLD. SYDNEY. February 28. The Prime -Minister states the Government lias decided to permit the export of gold under certain conditions. Firstly, Government gold may he exported up to the amount imported since first January, 1925; secondly, gold to he exported under a license which will he issued provided the export will not reduce the gold held by the hanks below the amount held an Ist January, 1925. A FATAL ENDING. SYDNEY February 28. Joseph Coleman, the driver of the second engine concerned in the Railway smash at Hawkosbury. lias succumbed to his injuries. BOTTLES THROWN AFTER A FIGHT. NEWCASTLE. February 28. There was a sensational sequel to a fight at the Newcastle stadium on Saturday night, when “ Billy ” Edwards knocked out “ Eos ” Reynolds in the second round. When the referee announced Edwards as the winner a riot started. From all corners of the .Stadium came beer bottles some full, some empty, landing with dull thuds and bouncing about in all directions.
For a time tilings looked serious, as bottles continued to fly towards the ring. This added to the shouts of angry men and the crashing of chairs made a perfect bedlam. Why the crowd should have disputed the verdict is not clear, as it appeared to he a clean knock-out. The arrival of the police nut an end to the-rioting.
THE GAR DOUBLE TRAGEDY SYDNEY, March 1
At the inquest on -The Gap tragedy victim, whose .death was cabled on February 18th, the husband ol -Mrs Bunco gave evidence that she was intemperate in her habits. She left him two years ago, refusing to live ill tho hush.
Other evidence was given that she and Smith hail been known to each other for only a lew days. I hey had visited hotels together. The woman had stated that she was in love with Smith, and was going to marry him. A young woman gave evidence that she (witness) and Smith bail become engaged a month ago, and they had arranged to meet on the night before the tragedy. Smith failed to keep the engagement. A verdict of suicide was returned. OBITUARY. SYDNEY, March 2. Obituary—Rev. John Ferguson (Presbyterian),' formerly of Dunedin and Invercargill.
