GERMAN WAR CASUALTIES. (“Sydney Sun” Cables). (Received this day at 12.30 p.m.) BERLIN, February 20. Official.—German war casualties were:— Deaths 2,053,000. Wounded in the Home army alone—- • 1,218,000. BANK RATE. BERLIN, Feb. 20. The hank rate is reduced to 0 per cent. IIERR EBERT SERIOUSLY ILL. BERLIN, Eel). 20. A bulletin issued states Herr Ebert is suffering from petritonitis and his condition is serious. THE GERMAN PRESIDENT. BERLIN, Feb. 21. All operation was performed for appendicitis, on President Ebert at a moment’s notice, he having barely time to transfer his duties to a deputy. The surgeon found it was an unusually complicated case, President Ebert’s health having been undermined by incessant political attacks, which lately were combined with attempts to implicate him in the Barmat scandal. It is considered he is unlikely to stand next May for the Presidency again. ' BERLIN, Feb. 23. The condition of President Ebert (who was operated on for appendicitis) is satsfactory.
