The following are the principal changes to take place in the Christchurch district:— -Mr J, C. Schneider, transport oflicer, Christchurch, to Head office, Wellington. Mr 11. C. Guinness, chief traffic clerk, Ohakune, to lie chief traffic icrk, Christchurch.-

The heave rain, which has been ailing in the back country has cause I several of the main Canterbury rivers to rise in high flood. The Wninmkar-;,-i, Riikaia, Rangitata and others have been affected, particularly the hrst,named, which last night, broke through the north hank in the vicinity of Be! fast Hotel. The river, which has found an outlet for its flood waters here before, poured over the low lying country through which it flows, ami reaching the main smith road between the hotel and the Empire bridge, proceeded to flood it to a depth of about two feet. Practically no damage was done and the Hood subsided to-day.
