HOKITIKA FIRE BRIGADE

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24th. The quarterly meeting of the Brigade was held at 8 p.m. Present:—Supt. Braddon, Deputy Supt. Williams and members. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Hokitika Borough Council promising every possible attention to the water supply with a. view to making it more stable.—Received. From United Fire Brigades Association forwarding particulars of the coming demonstration and conference, and remits to be brought before the Conference 1 Received.-. The various remits were discussed at length, and the Brigades’ delegate instructed as to the views of the Brigade on the several matters. It was resolved to apply to the Fire Board asking for the usual grant towards the expenses of the demonstration team. The Chairman congratulated Foreman McGregor on being selected as an examiner for the competitions in Christchurch. Funds required for the travelling team Were passed for payment. It was resolved to insure the representatives of the Brigade against accident. The Superintendent referred at some length to the difficulties in connection with the water supply, and the action iio had taken in the matter was unanimously approved. Foreman McGregor moved that it he a respectful suggestion to the Borough Council that Air Gibbons he appointed turncock in charge of the water supply, in view of the fact that lie had given satisfaction to the Brigade in the position over a period of seven years. Seconded by Fireman Findlay j and carried. It- was stated that the competition team that leaves on Saturday next under Deputy-C’apt. AYilliams to take part in the demonstration there, were under a considerable handicap as owing to the shortage in the water supply they had not been able to have any wet practices, a handicap that must substantially a (feet their work. ’J hr Brigade extended best wishes for the success of the team. Fireman Findlay laid on the table an instrument for measuring penalties at- competitions which promised to he of decided use and it was resolved tliai the Brigade’s delegate bring the innovation under the notice of the Association cxeeutve.
