AT LAKE KANIERI

(To the Editor.) Sir.—On reading Mr Andrews’ hltei of the 20th. inst. 1 \\ ish to try and make things as clear as possible. S line time ago Councillors C hcstcrman and Keenan obtained a grant of £l9 for the purpose of putting through a track connecting Kokniahi and Kanieri Lake which is esontial to the genera! public, both a.s a tourist resort and as a .matter of business. As this track would net go through private property. I think it is up to tile Council to carry on with tin' work which they have already started ; approximately ,C 0 10s being already spent out of the £l9 on the said track. In “Fair Play’.. ’ h Her of the 1 Ith inst. 1 notice that he has omitted to mention that on the same day that the Council rescinded the £l9, they authorised the expenditure of £l2 to lie spoilt on the western end of the track. Now. Mr. Editor. 1. with a lot of other people of Westland would like to know what was the object of the Council in doing this, a.s the only |K*rson this track would benefit is Mr. F. J. Andrews.

As far a.s trappers and doer stalkers are concerned this track is essential, as quite a lot of revenue is derived from those people. 1 might also state that excursion and picnic parties are debarred from going to the lake from the Kukatahi end as Mr. Andrews has had notices put up. bearing the inscription. “Trespassers will be prosecuted," and until this track is completed, the parties are unable to reach the lake unless by trespassing on Mr Andrews’ and Mr O’Reilly’s properry.— I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
