" ' A meeting of the Committee was held on Monday evening at 7.30 o’clock. Present- - Dr. Teielielmaim (Chairman) Messrs W. .1. Butler, Jeffries, Maekay, Muefarlane and Morris. Apologies for absence were made for Messrs Evans and Duff. The minutes of previous meeting were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN WA RD CORR KSPONDEXCE. From Railway Department advising that the request of the Ruatapu Social Committee would be considered when the next holiday time-table was being compiled.-—Received. From Westland County Council ad- • vising grant of £lO to assist in publi- • cation of booklet—Received with - thanks. From Southland I-caguc advising . postponement of Conference until April 1 —Received. ; From Minister of Marine advising ini* possibility of altering the itinerary of - Government steamer Tutanekai to visit : Jackson Bay by way of West Coast.—h Received. e From Xancarrow and Co., Grev- ° mouth, advising that owing to tho I fruit season, no boat would ho avaii- ’■ able for trip to the Sounds.—Received. s From Westland A. and P. Association ’■ soliciting donation towards show fund, j prizes.-—Received. lt It was resolved on the motion of Mr " Butler to advise the Ruatapu Social { Committee of the Railway Dcpartlt meat's reply to the League's representations on their behalf. lt Mr Jeffries urged tnat the matter of the trip to Jackson Bay ho not
abandoned and Dr. Teielielmaim pro-
mised to advise Mr Climie of the present position and "ascertain if tho Canterbury members would help make lip a. party to charter a vessel for tho purpose.
On the motion of Mr Jeffries, seconded by Mr Maekay, Messrs Bruce, Jeffries and Pilkington were appointed a ,sub-committee to wait on the District Telegraph Engineer with a view to obtaining a continuous telephone service in the district. A gejieral discussion as to finances followed and it was clearly indicated that the activities of the League were severely handicapped owing to lack of funds. It was pointed out that at tho present instance even tho usual grant of two guineas to the A. and I’. Association for prizes in the scholars section for the grasses competition was inipoxs ible and it- was felt that the Committee slibuhl have a balance in hand to moot any special requests which would advance the interests of the district generally. Air Jeffries then gave notice of motion to set up a special committee to -- go into the question of ways and means. The meeting then terminated at 8.15 p.m,
