CIl-T FOR PUNK FT SOCIETY. DUNEDIN, February 17. The Plunket Society has advice of a gift of a further 121000 from Mr Wolf Harris, of London to assist the endowment fund.

SEBUM SUPPLY. AUCKLAND. Fob. 10. "I iiere has been a splendid response in Auckland to the appeal for convalescent blood l'or the preparation of serum for the treatment of infantile paralysis patients. An appeal was made through the ‘New Zealand Herald’ on February ot-h.i hv the medical superintendent of. Auckland Hospital (Dr. C. E. Maguire) and the hospital bacteriologist and pathologist (Dr W. Gilmour). The response was immediate and splendidly representative, and was a fine tribute to the character and high civic spirit of the parents of the volunteers.

So far about 30 volunteers from the metropolitan area have offered convalescent. blood for the benefit of present .sufferers-from infantile paralysis. Almost as many offers of a similar sc vice have f«?on received from the parents of convalescents in the country, tint it has not been practicable to accept such volunteers Samples of blood must he taken under hospital or lahoratorv conditions, which eliminate any danger of contamination ; hence it has been considered imprudent toi take samples of convalescent blood from volunteers in the country and transmit ■ hv mail to the Auckland Hospital laboratory No risks can lie taken, and it would he asking too much for generous volunteers to incur the expense of travelling to Auckland. Some people may consider that such expense, in the special circumstances, might very properly he borne by the State, but no official suggestion a* to llDt lilts been hiA'le.
