At last night’s meeting of the Hospital Hoard it was jocularly remarked that a new industry bad been inaugurated. This was mentioned when an account for shipping a Chinaman hack to China was being dealt with. It appeared that an indigent Chinaman was on the hooks for charitable aid and it was deemed the cheapest way out to ship the recipient hack to the Flowery band and incur the one expense, instead of making regular monthly grants for what may have been an extended period.
The inadvertent omission of the little world “ not ” in the copy of a letter forwarded hv the Hospital Hoard to an enquiry liv the proposed Medical Association at Kunuira, caused some misunderstanding there and resulted in a somewhat unsatisfactory visit to the Hoard meeting last evening. When the original letter was read the omission was noticed and the cause of the inability of the deputation to understand the attitude of the Hoard was explained.

The bee paralysis reported to have broken out in Canterbury has no connection with the prevailing epidemic of infantile paralysis. Paralysis among bees, the Chief Government Apiary Instructor (Mr K. A. Karp) explains, does not incur in epidemic form, as isolated cases are reported each season. There is nothing known as to the cause oi paralysis in bees and investigations so far carried out have failed to determine the origin of the trouble. The disease is only temporary amongst bees, and uilunies affected recover later in iseason. The most serious drawback to the beekeeper is that it affects the re return from the hive, it is generally recognised that the queen lice is responsible for the trouble, and bee-keep-ers usually practise re-queening on thiai count. lice paralysis is general throughout New Zealand, hut is not siiflii-ieiitly serious to affect the inilustrv l i any extent.
