De Garis appeared before a Justice of the Peace at the city watch-house and was charged with obtaining three hundred sterling by means of valueless cheques. He was remanded, bail being allowed. MELBOURNE, February 12. De Garis’s bail was fixed at C3OO sterling. THUNDERSTORM DAM AG E. MELBOURNE, February 12. During yesterday’s thunderstorm the fusing of electric wires in various places disorganised the train and tram services. Several places were struck by lightning and severely damaged. The electric power sub-station at Camberwell was destroyed and a house at Bolwyin was wrecked. Many narrow escapes are reported.
