De Garis appeared before a Justice of the Peace at the city watch-house and was charged with obtaining three hundred sterling by means of valueless cheques. He was remanded, bail being allowed. MELBOURNE, February 12. De Garis’s bail was fixed at C3OO sterling. THUNDERSTORM DAM AG E. MELBOURNE, February 12. During yesterday’s thunderstorm the fusing of electric wires in various places disorganised the train and tram services. Several places were struck by lightning and severely damaged. The electric power sub-station at Camberwell was destroyed and a house at Bolwyin was wrecked. Many narrow escapes are reported. Heavy rain accompanied the storm. This and l.'lbs during the previous days promise a bowlers wicket to-morrow for the test match. The ground is sodden am! weather unsettled. AUSTRALIAN FLOODS. SYDNEY, Feb. 11. Storms, accompanied by torrential rain and hail, struck l.inmore r.nd .Juiiee. The low-lying areas were flooded, and much damage to shops and houses resulted. Reports of heavy damage are expected from the country districts. At Junee the water was knee deep. TOM WALSH. MELBOURNE, February 11. Tom Walsh has lodged ait appeal against the fines imposed on him yesterday.
