WEST COAST FIGURES. The following figures show the tonnage (mostly of timber and coal) sent through the Otira tunnel from the West Coast during the six months ended January 31 st: - Tons. August 28,009 September 2,8,800 October 28,000 November 25,723 December 22.906 January 29,050 The decrease shown in the January figure was due to Ihe loci that the mills had not properly got going again after the Christmas holidays. The biggest (lavs of January was the 23rd, when 1367 tons were brought through. It was not a particularly heavy day, for it is on mold that 2990 tons have been carried .through in twenty-four hours.
