'OBTHaLIAN and n.z. cable association DAVIS CUB DATES. NEW YORK, February 7. Raul Williams, secretary of the United States Tennis Association, states the Association lias approved of the visit of the American team to Australia. During the executive meeting to-day other measures approved were that the player-writer rule and the proposal that the American Davis Cup team must he named at least twenty-one days before the challenge round. It will be remembered that Tilden following the Davis Cup doubles in 1923 bad vigorously protested against the practice of naming the doubles teams so late that players were unable to obtain tbe requisite practice together and thus Hawke’s and Anderson very nearly succeeded in overcoming Tilden and Johnston.

The Davis Cup dates fixed are: In torsame finals, September fil'd, -Ith, and sth at the Longwood cricket ground, Boston; challenge round, 10th, 11th. and 12th, at Germantown cricket club ground. Philadelphia; .National singles Mill to 19th. Thus the National Singles occur after the challenge round in order to enable foreign players to participate unhampered by fears that thev may tire themselves and hinder their chances in important Davis Cup matches. NEW YORK. February 7. Wholesale changes among the first twenty players of national tennis on the ranking list of 1021, announced two weeks ago. were made at the annual meeting of the United States As-| sociation. The committece eliminated J Watson Washburn from the list although he previously ranked as sixth, and elevated George Lott, the Chicago school boy. from twelfth to ninth. The first five on the- list, headed by Tilden, are unchanged; but with 'Washburn out Harvey. Snodgrass, Ilobn, and Big Norton move up to numbers six, seven and eight respectively.
