UNEMPLOYED. (PERTH, February 7. A deputation from the unemployed waited on the Inspector-General of Police and asked that lie should convey to the Prenteir the information that a- large number of workers are at present out of employment. The reason advanced was that unemployed workmen were under the temptation to steal. A POOR OPINION. PERTH, February 7. O. D. laid;, a. weli-known Victorian Grazier who has returned from a. visit to New Zealand by the Niagara, states New Zealand has had its best day. Land is not selling there now. Many of its young graziers, men with anything from a thousand sterling upward; are turning their eyes towards Australia. Maurice McNamara, stock and station agent of Melbourne shares this view. A CLOUD BURST. ADELAIDE, February 7. A cloudburst over the city caused . streets to he Hooded. Water poured over the kerbstones into practically everv basement in the city. Considerable damage was done. The Government Meteorologist estimates one hundred million gallons of water fell in the city proper five inches were registered in two and a quarter hours. The downpoit was -he heaviest in North Adelaide. Two civil servants were struck by lightning while standing at an office, window. They were not seriously injured. A young woman was swept off her feet while attempting cross a Hooded street and was carried into a. culvert whence she was rescued with extreme difficulty.
