For the position of secretary and treasurer of the Hullc-r Hospital Hoard applications were received from all over New Zealand. The final voting resulted in a tie between Air T. K. Moody, Hawera, and Mr 0. -M. Powell. Westport, and the chairman gave his easting vote for Mr -Moody, who is being inivted to come to \\ estport to meet the hoard on February 17 before the appointment is finally made.
At the Magistrate's Court, Reef ton, on Thursday before Air Aloldrum. S.M., the Commissioner of Taxes sued AN. A. Conlon, on two charges of wilfully or negligently Ifuniishfng incorrect income tax returns. Air Kitchinghum appeared for the prosecution, and Air P. O’Regan and with him Air T. Phillips. 'for Dr. Conlon. Air O’Regan stated Dr. Conlon had acted negligently and not fraudulently. Since his arrival in Reefton he (counsel) had gone into the matter fully and lie was of the opinion that the contentions of the Department were correct. He therefore pleaded guilty. His ANorship said he would convict defendant of negligence on both charges. On the first charge lie would lie fined £5 with counsel's fee £5 5s and Court costs is. and oil the second fined £lO. counsel’s fee £5 os and costs 7s.

Entries for the fat stock sale at A rah ura on Monday appear in this issue. Mr E. Cholerton, optician, is now in Hokitika and may lx> consulted at Kellers Hotel until February 20th. A fishing party went out in the Elsie yesterday, into the roadstead and the catch included 1 5 groper and a number of sehnapper and other fish. A farm of 63 acre freehold, 320 acres leasehold and 100 acres T.G.L. at Matainui, is offered for sale by Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Greymouth. Messrs W. An accident occurred at the Westport Railway Engineering Workshops vesterday morning, when two employees. -Messrs J. Gardiner and T. 0 Neil were injured. It appears that a heap of iron slabs, used for building trucks, over-balanced and hit the men. Gardiner received injuries to his legs am head and had to he conveyed by ambulance to the hospital. O’Nei was not seriously hurt, and was conveyed to his home. Gardiner is progressing as well as can be expected.
