RETAILERS’ EVIDENCE. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CAULK ASSOCIATION ' (Received this clay at 11.25 a.rn.) LONDON, February 1. The Food Coinmji.ssitni heard the evidence of representatives of tin? retail meat trade, including .Mr Coolidge, . the President, and other officials of the National Federation of ,thc .Meat Traders’ Association, who made a joint statement declaring the charges of profiteering hv retailers were absurdly untrue. The retailing of meat was done at less than twenty per cent average gross profit on the- cost. Increased could alone reduce the price. on the importation of Jr Canadian cattle should he removed and all imported cattle from the J)o----'J minions placed on the same footing, as imports from Ireland. Replying to .Mr Dudley (a member of the Commission) in regard to a statement that importing companies did not control meat prices, Air Coolidge expressed an emphatic opinion that importing companies consulted each other and instructed their representatives i the markets concerning prices.
