HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONDAY. FEBRUARY 2nd
The Committee met at 7 p.m. Pre-sent:--Rev. J. F. Jack (Chairman), Messrs T. \V? Duff, W, E. Richards, If. R. Sweney, W. Goodfollow, Conning (Hon. Sec.). The Rector (Mr T. Irvine) was also present. VOTE OF SYMPATHY.
The Chairman mentioned that since last meeting, a member, Air Robt. Wells, had sustained a bereavement in the death of his father. He moved that a letter of condolence be conveyed to Mr Wells expressing the sympathy of the Committee. Seconded by Mr Duff and carried, members fitand-

Wild, thanking Committee, f support given him.—Received. From T. Robinson, asking for a share of Committee’s b'usiiics.s.—Received, ifr Sweney moved that Mr Robinson ic asked to keep his stock for prizes ip-to-dnie and lie would got a fair share if business. Seconded by Air Goodellow and carried. From Canterbury Board granting £SO or renovation of inside of school and i.sking for the work to he carried out, ifr Wild to confer with committee; he repairs to the fence and drainage if grounds to stand over meantime; mm same stating the resignation of Mr A. Socbeck, assistant master, had icon received and accepted and applications were being invited. —Reecitcd. From C. W. Rose, Secretary of the Westland A. and V. Association, nsk„K for a school holiday on the second lay of the Show at Greymouth.—Re•oivod; no action taken. From Canterbury Board notifying apmintinent of Miss Muriel Bell a.s assistant teacher to take up her duties is from Februarv 2nd.— Received. RECTOR’S REPORT. From Rector (Mr T. Irvine) as folows: “ I have to report as follows for the month ending January 31st, 1925: “ Examinations—St. (5 proficiency examination was held in December, and as a result '..2 pupils obtained pro.ieieucy certificates, and 13 competency. “ fn the scholarship examination, one pupil. H. M. Sweeney, was successful in 'gaining a senior national Rcliolnishi.p, while all the candidates who sat for the junior scholarship secured lice places. . “ The results of the matriculation examination were very satislactorv. live candidates securing a full pass, a bile three obtained partial passes. « Five candidates also passed trie public service entrance, three ol whom had the distinction of being m the Inst hundred for New Zealand. • > 'l'lierc are four named to you on the. It was resolved to congratulate the Rector and stall for the excellent results ol the year. The statement showed the gross takings of the Fair amounted to £ll |.j s ,3d ; the, expenses were £1 -Is 2d. leaving a net profit of £ID P's 3d. The Visiting Committee (Messrs Richart'.- and Cvodfellow) reported the plaster was coining down in one or two ,-nnms and needed immediate atleutpm . that the Ida- k hoards required repainting’; the- spouting of the school building required repairing, and attention in the lavatory: and a lmse tap to he put in. in front of the building.— Received. It was resolved to urge the Board to give immediate attention to the requirements mentioned.
It was resolved to again urge on the Board the urgency of drainage, fencing, and the renovation of the inside of the school. Rev. Jack and Air Sweney were appointed visitors for the month. Accounts a.s scheduled wore passed for payment. SCHOOL PICNIC. IN DEFT N ITEI.Y POST POXF.D. The Chairman said a.s they knew the picnic had been postponed owing to the outbreak of infantile paralysis. It was now for the Committee to decide what course should be pnrsneef. After discussion the Chairman moved that the question of a picnic he held over until the schools are allowed to reopen. and that the question he then reconsidered. Seconded by Air Duff and carried. The Committee ipse at 8 p.m.
