Hcrthalian and n.z. cap - ,* association DISTRESS IN IRELAND. (Received this day at 8.50 a.m.) LONDON, January 29. The “Daily Chronicle” Dublin correspondent says reports from Donegal, Kerry, Galway and Connemara, disclose that thousands are suffering distress owing to the food and fuel famine, due to the torrential rains and floods during recent months. There has been numbers of deaths and outbreaks of fever in the poorer districts where the potato crops failed. The fact that the Irish people found little employment in England and Scotland last harvest adds to their distress. A relief fund has been opened and the local Government i,s distributing oval and food. Tho Free State Government has allocated a quarter of a million sterling for relief works.
