The Department of Agrictulture has received the following cablegram dated .January 24, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London :—- BETTER. The market is steadier with a better demand at the lower prices. Official quotations are:—New Zealand, finest salted 150 s to 158 s, exceptional 160 s; unsalted, 1(5Is ; other qualities, 132 sto 1525. Australian, finest salted, libs to I Iks and up to 150 s; unsalted. 154 s to 150 s; other qualities, salted and unsalted, 130 s to 1 I Is ; Argentine, I lls to 140 s; exceptional, 148 s, other qualities, 131 s to 112 s: Danish (better demand), Bids tier ewt. Cl I ELSE. The market is firmer. Official quotations are:—English, finest larmer’s, steady, 120 s to 1245; Canadian 'quiet) coloured and white 98s to 100 s; exceptional, 102 s; New Zealand steady demand, coloured and white, 93s to 9ls : Australian, BSs to 92s per cwt. Shipments of New Zealand produce arrived this wed; per Karairea and Orari. II EM I’. The Manila market opened dull and easier and closed quiet but steady. ‘ .1 grade .lauunry-Fcbrunrv shipments sold at L's 4 10s per toil. The New Zealand market continues quiet and quotations are unchanged. TALLOW. The market is quiet and lias a weaker tone, and there was little demand at auction. Present quotations are:— Mutton—Fine. 55s fid to otis ; lair to good, s>l s fid to nls fid : dark to dull, 47s fid to 49s tier cwt. peel' Sweet- mid, or mixed. 52s fid to 535; fair to good. 50s to 52s fid; dark to dull, 15s fid to 17s fid per cwt. Mixed—Fair to good 50s to 525; dark to dull, 45s to 47s fid per cwt. Gut. etc.'—43s to 47s fid per cwt. APPLES.
Xova Scotian—Golden Russet, L’lis to 30s ; Baldwin, 13s to 23s per barrel. American—Jonathan. 12s to Vis: Rpitzenburg, Staymnn’s Wincsap and Rome Beauty. Ills to lls per case. Californian —Newtown, Os fid to lls (id per case. Oregon—Xewtown, Vis to Us per case. WOOL. The sales are well attended and prices remain at about opening rates. The firm limit is causing the withdrawal of a considerable proportion of Xew Zealand slipe.
