AUCKLAND, January 2G. Six cases of infantile paralysis wore notified in the Auckland Health District. to-day, two being at i-Ilerslie, and one each at Northcote, Grey Lvnn, I’onsonby and Manurewn. It is also announced that four deaths occurred at the Auckland Hospital on Saturday, being two gills aged ten months and five years, a boy two, anil a youth aged 18. AVANGANUI, January 20. Five cases of infantile paralysis were reported hero to-day. Three are of a serious nature. A SUSPICIOUS CASE. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. A suspected case of infantile paralysis was reported to the Health Officer to-day from the Papanui district. Ihc patient is a hoy eight years of age. one of a large family. The whole household has been quarantined. As a result of the latest examination, the Health Officer states the ease is suspicious only. WELDING TON, Jan. 26. Tho Health Department received the following notifications of fresh cases of infantile paralysis for tho 4S hours ending 9 a.m. to-day: Auckland City 2, F.llorslie 1, I’auranga 1, Afasterton 5, Alauriccvillc West 1. There have been no fresh eases in Wellington or suburban districts during the past two days. No notifications have been received from the South Island. The total number of cases in the Dominion for tbo past two days was ten and for the preced-
ing two days seventeen. The total number from November 25 until today was 2(X). MORE RESTRICTIONS ON CHILDREN. TIAIARU, January 20. At a meeting of the Executive of the South Island Federation of School Committees here, a.motion was carried unanimously approving of the efforts of tho Health Department to protect children fro in infantile paralysis by the closing of Hie schools for a further period and suggesting that the children he also debarred from attending picture shows and picnics entailing travel in crowded vehicles by rail or road. CLOSING OF SCHOOLS. WELLINGTON, January 20. As contradictory statements are being made regarding the closing ol the schools, the Director of Education announces that the order to close applies to all schools, private or public, primary or secondary till furthci notice.
