At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Ernest Hoselwood was charged' wtili being drunk while in charge of a motor car, and with negligently driving a car so as to cause the death of Robert .laities Young. Accused pleaded not guilly, and reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at the Supreme Court on February 4th. Arising out of the same case, the licensee of the Georgetown Hotel, was charged on three different counts with breaches of the .Licensing Act. Alter hearing evidence. .Magistrate Bundle reserved his decision. Four men v\ ho were in the car on the occasion of the fatality were each lined in sums ranging from T 1 to 12 for being on licensed premises after hours. POSTAL OFFICER'S THEFT. DUNEDIN, January 21. The evidence showed accused belonged 'to a very respectable tam.ily. Accused pleaded guilty to all the charops, and was committed for sentence at the Supreme Court. Bail was granted on Coll, with a surety ol CoO, on condition that accused report daily to the police. TWO .MEN .MASSING. OAMARU. January 21. A voting man. Andrew Alctcall. aged 22, Inis been missing from his homo for two days. llis bicycle was found on the breakwater. Fears tire entertained lor liis safety. The police are dragging the harbour. There is not trace yht of Frank Giavesou, Secretary of the Hotel Workers’ Union, who has been missing for a week. TYPHOID OUTBREAK. IN THE FREWEKA. ROTORUA. January 21. A serious outbreak of typhoid has occurred at Maugauohatu. in the l iewora. Twelve cases are reported and three deaths. A doctor and two nurses are on the spot, and an additional doctor ami throe nurses will leave Rotorua tonight. A camp hospital and equipment left early this morning. Mangapohatu is only accessible by horseback from Rtmtuluina, by a P’Ccipitous mountain route.
