CONTROL OF BOXING. WELLINGTON. January 22. The Boxing Conference having at ot ishod the Centre svstem of control, has set up new machinery under which local associations are to account direct to the Council and n Centro officer will he appointed to report directly to the Council. The Council’s percentage on professional contests lias been increased to 2 per cent., hut there will be no tax on amateur contests. The Conference had a long discussion oil giving more encouragement to amateur boxing. Professional boxing, however, found a lot of support. Mr MrVilly (President) declaring that they could not do without them. He opposed separating them, saving the associations which nut amateurs only on would he as dead us Julius Caeser. Other speakers spoke strongly in favour of the amateurs. Tu the end it was decided that no orders should lie given for trophies as it was asserted they were merely cashed. The Association will have to give actual trophies. CROQUET. CHRISTCHURCH, January 22. The Dominion croquet championships were continued to-day in fine weather. Doubles championship open, first round. Airs E. A. Johnston and H. J. Williams heat Mrs AlcClurg and Airs McDowell 26 to 9. Handicap doubles, second round. Airs Ifesketh and Penn defeated Aliss Card and Airs Vincent, 26 to 19.

Handicap singles, second round. Airs W. Styche defeated Al.iss Card 26 to 23; Airs Tyres defeated Airs Calvillc 26 to IS. Third round. Airs Lee defeated Airs Roiinington 26 to 16.
