HOKITIKA FIRE BRIGADE
The usual fortnightly practice was held last evening under Supt. liraddon, there being a good muster present. The manual engine was taken out nod a useful pra r iice indulged in. After the practice it was decided to send a team to the United Eire Brigades Association demonstration to he held at Christchurch on .March drd. It was resolved to submit the name of Eiircman McGregor as one ol the judges for the demonstration. The Brigade also discussed the present lack of water in the town, and it was resolved that the follow he sent to the Borough Council:
To tlie .Mayor and Borough Councillors: Centlemen,—This Brigade views with nlnim the constantly recurring water shortage, which lias now reached such an acute stage that we deem it our duty to point out the danger which looms over Hokitika, for outside Bevel! Street and the lower portion of Hibson’s Quav (which have a limited protection' from fires) the town has no protection if the reservoir is empty, and all this Brigade could do would be to stand by and watch our citizens mimed one after another, and we draw under your notice the imperative necessity of augmenting the flow of water into the reservoir. This work, in our opinion, will have to be undertaken but what we would urge both as citizens and as a Brigade, is that it he completed before we have lost the town.
