(From Our Correspondent). SWIMMING SPORTS. Quite the most exciting event of the summer season at Ross was the Swimming Carnival held at the Public baths on Friday evening last. There were fully 500 people present. The brilliant electric lights, used for the first time, gave vividness to the scene. A varied programme and an attractive display of swimming and diving, provided a splendid evening’s enjoyment. The following were the results: Boy’s Novice Race, 25yds.—W. MeNabli 1, G. Ma.son 2. Evans, expressed the pleasure of the Swimming Club at the splendid response of Hokitika and the district generally, and Air Houston voiced the pleasure of visiting competitors and spectators, and announced that Hokitika would provide an entertainment on similar lines shortly. Proceedings terminated with supper for visiting competitors, and an enjoyable dance.
