[nr TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CABLE CHARGES. (Received this day at 11.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 20. Referring to the London “ Daily Chronicle's ’’ comments on the terminal charges cabled yesterday, the Post-master-Genera] says tire Commonwealth Government is prepared to retime by twenty per cent the terminal charges in respect to classes of traffic for which the cable companies agreed to make a proportionate reduction. There are strong reasons in favour of terminal charges for cablegrams and a reduction by twenty per cent is as far as the Commonwealth Government can at present go. in connection with press cablegrams.
