BIG POLITICAL SENSATION
SENATOR BORAH IN REVOLT. ADM INISTRATION DEFTKD. (“Sydney Sun” Cables). (Received this day at 9.25 1.m.) WASHINGTON. January 19. The biggest political sensation for many a day has dev,-lolled with the announcement that Senator Borah, Chairman of the .Foreign Relations Committee. is breaking with the administration regarding the tinancial agreement signed at Paris last week. “ It is a dangerous step which may entangle America in Europe and make this Government morally, if not legally, responsible as a partner of the Allied Rowers who are enforcing the reparations payments against Germany.” said Senator Borah when reviewing the situation. Senator Borah’s slop is reminiscent of the late Senator Ix/dgc’s revolt against AYilson which nullified the League of Nations. Senator Borah’s influence has grown greatly since lie succeeded Senator Lodge and lie has been quite frank in declaring his opposition to the policy towards the Soviet. There are mniiv signs that Senator Borah’s revolt "ill embarrass the administration. George Harvey, a former Ambasador. writing in the “ Sunday Editorial ” asserts the agreement is atrocious. He savs : “America is waiving her independence in European affairs, if Germany defaults, and the Allies attempt to collect by force, then we are in for it. A AYliite Hoit.se spokesman has already denied that any new obligations exist and insists that America should undertake no new responsibilities.
