T here was a lull bench of buyers far the third wool sale of the present season which opened on Saturday night, although only two catalogues out ot live have been olfcrod. It appears that prices at super cross-broils are down Id to ltd per lb., while average grades of line and medium crcssbr ‘ds also show a decline of about :|d per lb. On the other hand the hulk of Saturday’s offering wa.s coarse crossbred, which met with strong uempotitioli ai.e advanced id to Id. Low oross-breds, pi,-19, were up to a similar price, llalfbres were not up to Dei ember oll’ci ings an dropped id to Id per lb. A fair amount of merino was catalogued aim the tap price was Tod. Ihe total otleriug was li -- cd at 25,090 hales and this limitation is hcleived to have had a good etlect on the prices obtained. There was a good attendance of buyers, represoutlog Hm t rade of most of (lie manufai tui ’iig countries. Bidding, although not Ivon wa.s well sustained. The hulk of ti.e support came from liradtord buyers, and a lair quantity was secured for the Continent. American buyers were more in evidence at to-day’s sale, hut not much suitable wool was atnihdde. It is estimated that line wools were from one half-penny to one penny per lb. lower. Oil tile other band ceai-.er qimlities were from a farthing to a halfpenny per lh better. Pieces, bellies and locks sold particularly well at distinctly hefter prices than in December. The demand for lambs "as lather erratic, but prices tinned as the sale progressed. Clips classed and binned by us in store elicited keen competition and very excellent prices were realised.

He added that the trials of <oals would not entirely be limited to ibe New Zealand product, but that the object was to obtain the relative value of different coals, both local and imported.
KILLED 15V A TAXI. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. John Davis, an elderly man. while cycling in Manchester St. this morning was struck by n taxi-cab hurrving to the station and was killed. I lie car then crashed into a heavy iron verandah post and rooted it from the ground. The driver was Charles Alefntosh. There was little traffic about at the time.
