WAR DEBTS.
[REUTERS i'ELUUKAiIS.j DEFINING BRITAIN'S ATTITUDE. .LONDON, January 15. The correspondence which M. Clelncntcl and Mr Churchill exchanged in Paris has I toon published. It shows that the former took the initiative in requesting Mr Churchill to define the British ideas as to the inter-Allied debts, as it was a subject whereon France was desirous of reaching a settlement. Mr Churchill, replying, promised to pro he the matter with the Cabinet at Ixindon, and send an answer enabling France to im-sont definite proposals, meanwhile repeating that Mr Ballour’s Note remains the dominating guide principle. At the conclusion of to-day’s Cabinet which dealt specifically with this subject, it was reported that further discussion of the details was necessary before a. Note would he sent to France and a definite pronouncement is unlikely for several weeks. Air Balfoun’.s Note broadly laid dijwji the principle that Britain did not require more from the Allies together than was necessary to liquidate the British debt to America.
