Preliminary official enquiries into last nights railway smash show that both trains were travelling only live miles an hour, and as a result of this hundreds of passengers escaped almost 1 ceitain death. The Commissioners have issued a statement that during the last twentyfour years there were only three railway accidents in which people were killed through causes beyond their own control. One shareholder in supporting the reconstruction of the Company said that no statement of accounts could ho given because no proper hooks wore kept. The creditor added that never had the company been in such a chaotic state. Another creditor declared that most of those present, were nearly broke and j,' they did not. agree to reconstruction they would he blamed fur the crash. Two others expressed admiration lor De Garis. Another declared that everybody, had forgotten the poor devils who had paid instalments on blocks ol land.
