Thirty-four members of the crew of the .Vlooraki were charged with disobeying lawful commands I rom the captain and they were sentenced to fourteen days imprisonment. The Crown Prosecutor explained that when ordered to cast oil to allow the vessel to proceed to an anchorage in the hay, members ot tbe deck department refused to do their duty, while the stokehold crew relaxed Jo operate the furnaces. The company had to engage tugs to assist the ship to her anchorage. Captain Dourly said his idea in taking the vessel to the anchorage was because lie would have a treer hand to on.ra.ro men bv going ashore when the vessel was not at the wharf, lie knew that there were men eager to join at New Zealand rates because they weic starving.
