Tweiitv-six sulphur-laden trucks and an empty N wagon ran away from the Burnside station on .Monday morning at about (i.-lo (says the Dunedin “Star”). These trucks had arrived twenty-one hours previously, and were placed at the top of the railway yard, all brakes being on, and there they stood all right lor all that time, and then suddenly started down the incline. What caused them to move is not yet ascertained. They got up speed, and shot into the runaway siding, which is provided as a safeguard in the event of such a happening, with the result that six of the trucks were piled up and badly damaged. The funeral of the late Air Alex Thomson took place yesterday afternoon, a large assemblage gathering to Pay a last mark of respect. The Roy. J. Perkins conducted the service at All Saints Church and the graveside, on which a number of floral tributes were placed from sorrowing friends. The llruids Lodge attended in full force, the service of the order being read by Bro. T. Robinson.
The funeral of the late -Mrs W. Ritchie of Koiiorangi took place yesterday afternoon and was followed by a Targe number of mourners, including a good many country residents. The Rev. Father Kennedy conducted requiem mass ta St. Alary’s Church anti the service ta the graveside, on which a number of lloral tributes were placed from sorrowing friends.

An iiiqesi was held yesterday at Waiuta. before .Mr AY. .Stewart, J.P., Acl ing-Goroner, concerning the death of William A!c( Tilieii. miner, who lost his life early on Wednesday morning in a (ire which destroyed tin* hut in which he was living, inspector Kcclcs watched proceedings on behalf of Hie Police, (unstable Houston gave evidence to the effect that deceased had been living by himself for some time past. On the evening prior to the lire he went home about 8.30 o’clock, which was the last time lie was seen alive. At one o'clock the following morning, the hut was discovered to he on lire, hut witness could not give any evidence as to the cause of the outbreak.
