BOWLING.

The games to decide the singles champion of the local Bowling Club are bong played each evening: on the green which lias been running very fast as a. result of tbe fine weather being experienced. There are fourteen entrants and each player lias to play each of the others. Tbe piny in many instances lias been of a high class, though there have been quite a lot of reversals of form, and very uneven play, most of those engaged hardly showing their true form, one night as compared with another, and the various scores are hardly of any use to work out a mathematical problem with, or to give a lead as to the result of a coming game. In view of the approaching tournament, members are requested to push through with their games, as it will be necessary to fix a definite date for the conclusion of tbe competition.

'rhe teams to represent Hokitika Bowling Club against Greymouth at Greymouth on Saturday next will be the same as that selected for last Saturday except that AY. Braddon will replace AY. Wilson. The team will leave by the 1 p.m. train. [by TELEGRAPH —rER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DOMINION TOURNAMENT. WELLINGTON. January 13. The most outstanding event of postsectional play in the singles competition of the Dominion bowling tournament to-day was the defeat in the fourth round of Best (Dunedin), who up to that stage had suffered no losses. by Kerr (Masterton) by 22 to. 17. It was in this game that the chief interest of the day’s play centred, after Maxwell Walker had been eliminated from competition by Kerr ill the third round. Up till the fourth round Best was the only player who had come through without loss. The match was watched closely hy crowded banks on the Wellington Club’s green, Best s deliberate and crouching style of play being Hie subject of general comment. His manner of play is much on the lines of AY. Carsell, Tnicri. who won the singles championship last year. He bad a curious habit, first of lightly but rapidlv stopping about on the mat to get a firm foothold as it were, then allowing the howl lo run down Horn his wrist on to the palm of bis band, so as to got an even grip with the middle surface, next dropping his arm full length to got a good balancing swing and then placing his left baud on bis loft knee before delivering. There is nothing wrong with all these movements, but they have tbe appearance of idiosyncrasy, on account of the Mow precision with which each is carried out, being after the manlier oT a soldier .performing military exorcises by numbers.
