Last session tile Minister of Education secured a grant oT £50,000 for the purpose of granting increases in the salaries of teachers, a.s from April L last. Alter consulting the N.Z.K.T. and the Boards, the Minister has decided upon the following distribution of the vote: — (I) The annual salary increments which hitherto have been only £lO are being increased in most cases to £bj, in order to provide a more rapid increase ni salary a.s tbe teacher becomes more experienced and proficient. <2i The s- ale of salaries of sole and head teachers have beo.il revised as follows: - Grade I. average 9-20 : £T7O-£2of>: Grade 11. 23-33: £2lO-£270; 111 A. Grade I £l4O- Cl 75. two of CIO. one of £l3; (21—£205- C2GO, one of £lO. three of £l3; (3)—£233-.C315, £l3. (3) Infant mistresses of schools of Grade IITC will receive £23 extra, and the country or remote allowance to assistants in Grade 111 schools has been increased by £5, so that now the maximum is £3O. and second assistants in these schools may now participate. (8) Assistant- female teachers of Grades IT and ITT, previously graded in Group ft and JH respectively, will now he graded, in Group 111 and IA . Ibis will reduce the grading salary addition in many cases, but- this reduction is compensated for by granting women greater increases in scale salaries than men. AVouion will now he placed m the same grading group as men ill corresponding positions, and will thus have the greater scope they have asked for with regard to increased grading. (ID In future, temporary teachers will he paid salaries according to position as follows:- Grade I. assistants.
