The resignation of Air Hughes takes effect the -Ith. March when he completes your years’ _ service as the head of the State Department. It is said that Mr Hughes desires, after twenty years of public life, to ret urn to private life. Hi his letter of resignation, AD Hughes expressed to President Ooolideo Lis deep appreciation of the confidence reposed in him and the privilege <>! serving under the President’s leadership. Air Coolidge replied with an expression of regret and renewed confidence in the secretary.
Air Hughes resignation caused snr- | rise in the Capitol. It is understood that: for months Air Hurdles has desired to again engage in law practice, but bis friends thought lie would remain in the Cabinet another year. Air Coolidge and Air Hughes always appeared to see eye to eye on foreign affairs, but for some time AD Hughes opponents in the Senate, which has advisory power in affairs, has l-een a source of apparently growing 'irritation to him. Air Hughes never agreed with Senator llora.lt on some vital questions of the foreign policy.
