Who the Sussex, which arrived at Auckland yesterday, was at Singapore, a case of 'small-pox was discovered on hoard shortly before the vessel was about to sail. The patient, an Indian seamen, was taken ashore, and the vessel was thoroughly fumigated. 'The vessel arrived on Dee. 27th. at Thursday Island, where a pilot went on and piloted her through Imres Straits. As the quarantine period from the time the Sussex U-IL Singapore bad not expired when the vessel arrived off Cape Moreton. the pilot was unable to land, lie came on to Auckland, and is returning to Australia by the Malnira. which left Auckland lor Sydney yesterday. During the voyage of the Sussex to this port, the crew were under the observation of the ship’s surgeon, who was able to pronounce the ship live from any infectious complaint.
