McLEAN’S PICTURES. «tQjlM "Till-: LAST non?.”—FRIDAY. The star picture at Alt-Leans is entitled " The hast Hour,” starring Alilton Sills and Carmel Alvers. The story opens with the arrival home of Steve Cline, rcltinned crook, from South America. He calls at the home of Hoover .detail, who earns a comfortable living through convenient forgeries, and there he finds his brother, Tom, mice his associate in crime, but whom he pledged to go straight, and Saidee AlcCall. the daughter of the forger, whom he remembered as a young girl. Unknown to Steve, a few days before his arrival, Tom has robbed a. bank, AlcCall s in the act of forging a. passport for him. hut experiences trouble, and Saidee seizing the pen completes the act, only to be exhorted by Steve never to again commit a crime. Suddenly the police break in, and Alallory, the private detective heading the police, insults Tom, who knocks him down, whereupon Afallory shoots him. when the lights suddenly go out, and when they come on again Tom is lying grieviousl.v wounded on the floor and Stove has disappeared, whilst Saidee and her father stand huddled together in the centre of the room. The polite search the grounds, and one remaining on guard bends over Tom. when Steve re-appears and disposes of the policeman in an ingenious manner and they all make their escape through a clever ruse. The scene shifts to the scat of war whore Saidee. now thoroughly reformed. is working as a Red Cross nurse, and tends a wounded soldier, Phillip Logan, who falls in love with her. Later when they are back homo, she is constantly courted by Phillip, hut, she will not marry him. Phillip takes Saidee to a ball given by Alallory, now boss of the State, in honour of Phillip’s father the Governor, and .Mallory seeing Saidee cannot place her until Phillip’s pal arrives, who is none other than Steve, and then lie remembers. During the dinner, the Governor is asked his opinion re pardons, and declares than no one should tamper with justice. Soon after he is stricken with apoplexy, and Phillip accompanied Intakes him to the hospital, whieli leaves Saidee without, an escort. Alallory finds her alone in lhe house and endeavours to force her to promise to promise to marry him, threatening to expose, her past life to the police, together with her father, hut the simultaneous arrival of Steve, who has come hack for the girl, and her father, who is socking her through anxiety, results in a struggle in" which AlcCall shoots Mallory. Saidee having tainted, knows nothing of the shooting and Steve cautious the old man to say nothing, and when they arrive home Steve declares lii.s love for ■ Saidee. Almost immediately the police arrive ant! arrest Stove for murder. He is tried, convicted and awaits execution. It is the last day, and Saidee decides to make one more try to see the Governor, hut ho stands by his conviction and refuses to sign, so Saidee taking advantage of the tact that the official has .'mother seizure forges his signature, but fails io arrive in time at the prison. A two-reel comedy, gazette and the thrilling serial " Lightning IJrycc ” will he screened. Musical selections by our Supreme Orchestra w ill conclude a magnificent programme.
