ARMAMENTS.
ATTITUDE OF AMERICA. • OMHALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. WASIIINGTON. January (>. Continuing to make further clear the attitude of the administration towards Senator Borah’s resolution for a disarmament and economic conference, White House intimates the United States will take no action to call an armament conference until the decision of the League of Nations is announced concerning that body’s intention to call such a conference. President Coolidge is especially desirous of taking the initiative in calling an assemblage further to limit naval armaments, particularly since cue of the preliminary conditions towards such action, namely, the institution of the Dawes plan, has already been fulfilled.. Congress is expected to renew the authorisation expressed in the Naval Appropriation Act of 192 J that tlie President negotiate with Britain. Japan. France and Italy relative t-n limiting t’-f. construction of all types and sixes of surface and submarine craft of ten thousand ions and less; and aircraft; also the number of men to he permitted in the navies of the powers ncemed. President Coolidge is definite.'.’ willing to act upon this mandate. White House advances further reasons for object ions for an economic ronl'erenre, namely, that Tin rope is net vet ready to submit bo the deliberations -if :-eieh a conference, many (piostions whi h. unless they were discussed, would seriously minimise ike conference's potential accomplishments.
