HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONDAY, JANUARY sth. The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present: Rev. J. F. Jack, (chair), Messrs YY. llaseler, AY. Goodfellow, R. .T. Redder, AY. E. Richards, Jas. Conning (lion, soc.) The resignation of Afr A. Seebeck was accepted with regret, and it was resolved to ask the Board to call applications for a successor as soon as possible. The December report of South Spit school showed an avenge attendance of 12.2 from a roll number of 20. AYhooping cough is given as the cause of the low attendance. On the recommendation nf the Board, Aliss .Muriel Bell, was appointed to a jiosition on the staff. A letter from Air Seward (South Spit) rc sewing instruction was held over to allow of enquiries being made.

.Messrs Richards and Conning were appointed visitors lor the ensuing month. As no ballot had been taken re tho locality for tlie annual excursion it was resolved to rescind the former resolution re. ballot and the Committee unanimously decided that Runanga be again the site for the picnic. .Messrs Conning and Swenev were appointed collectors for the excursion and it was decided that a special meeting of the Committee be field a fortnight hence to make final arrangements. It was pointed out h,v the Chairman that certain renovations inside the school and work outside promised to he done during the i acation was not yet started. It was resolved to give tho Board a reminder. It was resolved to lorward a letlei 0 f congratulation to Air AYlid on his success in the recent Bard election. It was decided to give the caretaker a bonus of 210 as an appreciation of the good work he has done about the grounds, etc. The meeting then closed.
