WOOL SALKS AT Cl 1R IST( JIFROII. [BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! CHRISTO! I l ROM, Jan. 0. At the second Christchurch wool sale of the season, 2d,197 bales were olfercd. The wool came lor'ward in better condition than at the opening sale. It was sound and well-grown, the pioporliou of tender wool being small ; and it opened up in bright order. The catalogues comprised, for the most part, half-bred and crossbred lleeee wools. The brokers were applying the pruning knife, rendered necessary hy the decision of the Wool Committee, to pieces and general fclmongcry lots. Generally the sale was a sound one, and showed a shade of lirming in the recent Dunedin and Tinuiru auctions. Brices naturally were substantially lower than at the " hot” sale in November. probably on account ol the restricted opening of the felniongery lots. This class sold much more firmly than at recent sales, and in many eases almost as'good as at the November
From ten to fifteen per cent, of the catalogue was passed. Though several of the Home buyers, who made the pace at the opening sale, completed to a very limited extent, there was a much wider circle of operators than on that occasion, and all wool buying conntries appeared to lie represented. In the competition. Bradford was the principal inilueuoe, hut good average quantities appeared to he acquired by CoiitiiienLial and American represent a fives.
Considering the character ol the catalogue, the local mills did not operate as freely as might be expected. One or two bought substantial quantities, but others apiicared to he entirely out id the market. The range of prices was as lollows: Merino extra super to 2,',d per lb. super TUI to 3d.;d, inferior 23d to did: Corriedale, extra super to 37:;d, super dto :Ud. medium 29.',d to 32] d, inferior 2-1 Jd to 29d : halihred, extra super to dti-jd. suner M'-’d to 3-ul. medium 28 td to 31 Ul. inferior 22'.d to 21 >(L.
