ROSS NEWS.

PRESENTATION TO A. AY. PEEBLES. (Contributed.) Mr A. W. Peebles, Town Clerk, was on Friday evening last the recipient of an ante-nuptial presentation from the boarders and staff of the City Hotel, Ross. Prior to calling upon Airs T. Hatch to make the presentation, Air J. lto tell ford said that his fellow boarders could not- let such an auspicious occasion for Air Peebles pass without doing it honour. True, the time old older would change yielding place to the new ; thus they asked their guest to accept fjtheir gifts as an expression of gratitude for the manly fellowship which they had been privileged in the past to enjoy with him and an oblation thai his married life would be most joyful and prosperous. Airs T. Hatch then asked Air Peebles to accept a travelling rug and other gifts on the eve ol his departure to Christchurch where lie is to he united to Aliss Daisy Smith, late ol Ross . Mr W. AYoods made reference to the homely friendship which had pervaded their guest’s association with his fellow hoarders, as did also Air Ken Alav.

Speaking on lieliall ol Air and A.lrsC. Black, Mr G. C. Black remarked that Air Peebles had been For so long associated with the Junction and City Hotels that he had to lus fellow hoarders became an iiu-itution. The pool Young had expressed it that “friendship is the wine of life ” and indeed everyone in the house had had tlieii full of “ vinum. vitae ” as their guest was amicability itself. As a boardoi Air Peebles had been ever decorous, urbane and sympathetic towards all and so it was that the licencees joined in expresssing their appreciation ol their hoarder’s many sterling qualities, and wish that his married life would he blessed with healthy felicity and prosperity.
