Wool is one of the big sources ol our community’s purchasing power, and it alter Christmas the shopkeepers make the boast of record turnovers, the censorious will not have the argument that our income from production does not warrant the extravagance. It is III) doubt a fact that a considerable portion of the proceeds of the sales will not go into free circulation, for past years have left many of the men on the land with considerable liabilities to work- off, and there is the approaching end of ilio moratorium to he laced. —Dunedin "Star.”
In nearly all the accidents at level crossings a motor-car is concerned mid in every case the accident is caused by the carelessness of the motorist. It could hardly he otherwise in the nature "I things, 3 lie accidents always, nr practically always, happen ill broad daylight, and they happen because the motorist forgets or ignores a danger which is pointed out to him with perfect clearness before he encounters it. A railway crossing is a dangerous spot, and tlm Department lias provided warnings of the danger for all travellers who care to pay attention to warnings at all. —Christchurch ‘ ‘Press.’’

If it is inefficient, without promise of remedy, the output is dcleteriouslv affected, mid the lowered standard collies to he accepted as quite sufficient, as not to he exceeded without kicking. A billot under such eireiimstnnoes. especially when it is Government employ, seems to attract a certain type: and while there are among the workshop hands many admirably loyal and conscientious employees, there can hardly in the circumstances escape being an admixture of these only too ready to take advantage of their environment: anil ill these latter the political agitator appears to find suitable material for the inculcation of a doctrine in which work for work’s sake is not an outstanding principle.—Dunedin Star.
