IMMIGRANTS AU lIIV E. AUCKLAND. January •>. The Dorset arrived on Sunday with 340 immigrants. There was no sickness on the voyage. The health ol the party was excellent. Seventy-four children showed evidence of this by their cheery faces. llic majority of the men appeared robust and keen. Trades and professions were well-repre-sented. Most of the adults have work to go to. The immigrants include 31 domestics. Passengers for the south leave by the train to-night. PICNIC’ PARTY’S PLIGHT. AUCKLAND. January •">. A picnic party left on I’augitoto Island after the last ferry steamer had departed on . Saturday afternoon was observed from the launch in which the Governor-General and party were cruising. Sir Charles Fergnsson noticed seven people, women and children, standing on the wharf and from an inquiry made }io ascertained thenplight and at the expressed wish of the Governor-General they were taken aboard and conveyed hack to town.
