The premises of George Olxey, jeweller, were entered hy burglars and a quantity of jewellery was stolen, early on Christmas morning. A man named Alan James Dix, aged forty-three was arrested and remanded for seven days on the charge. No goods were recovered. INJURIES TO HEAD. AUCKLAND, Dee. 2S. An elderly man, John Bailey, was either pushed or struck outside a hotel yesterday afternoon. Bailey fell heavily, recenving head injuries, lie is still unconscious. The police have detained another mail in connection witli the incident. THROWN FRO At HORSE. DUNEDIN, Dec. 27. Donald Af’Donald, employed at Lawrence, was thrown from a restive horse. He was admitted to Tuapeka Hospital with head injuries. The accident occurred on Christmas Eve. The victim is not yet conscious. KILLED ON RAILWAY. WELLINGTON, Dec. 27. An elderly man was found lying beside the railway line near tlio Kliaitdallah tunnel this morning. The man. who has not been identified, may have fallen from the early Auckland express or may have been run over hy a train which followed. He was alive when found, hut died shortly afterwards. Tlio man found on the railway has been identified as James Sheerin, a resident of Palmerston North. SURF-BATHING FATALITY. DUNEDIN, Dee. 28. R. A. Afathowson. sharebroker, was drowned while surf bathing at AATirringlon this morning. CAPSIZED IN RIVER. DUNEDIN, Dee. 28. Advice has been received front Naseby that win men named AV. lloaro (farmer), and Joseph Allan, aged 71. Atterc 'returning from the Waipiafa sports on Friday when their gig capsized in the Kycburn River. lloaro hung on to the reins and was dragged to safety, hut Allan was drowned. The body lias not vet been recovered.
