WESTLAND HOSPITAL
CHRISTMAS CHEER. It was a red letter day at ’Westland Hospital and Home on ’Ninas day. The first greeting came from our ever ready and competent hand by waking the inmates to the strains of Gloria in Exeolsis, Old Winchester, Adestra I’hedalis etc. Then each inmate found that Santa Claus had been extremely busy with their hosiery. They found lie had an excellent memory. bringing them, cash, hankys. lollies. pipes, pouches, fancy soaps, perfumes. etc. which appeared to give the reecipients great delight. Then the Christmas dinner was the worthy equal of a state banquet. We question very much if there were a better spread in any private house in Hokitika. All the delicacies of the season were there in ahiinda me. Fowls, lamb, vegetables, fruit, ale, wine, and one dozen each of plum dulls, and real 'Xmas cakes. The Chairman of the Hoard. House Commit Ice and other members were present tu wish every inmate and employee the compliments of the season. In the afternoon the members of tlio Hoard provided motor cars and all those inmates who desired, were taken fm a run in the •onutrv, where altci noon lea was provided. Do Rosing Day inmates wishing to go to the races were the guests ol the Westland Racing Club, being taken there and hack hv motor cars provided by the Antoni, thile Association. Speaking gciteral|v it can he slated without fear of contradiction, there was not an institution in New Zealand who had a merrier Christmas than the pioneers ,if Westland had in our Hospital and House. We are given to understand that Mr O’Rrien made a visit in the institution and gave each old age pci sinner a sum of money, understood to have been collected by Mr Thus, ( alley from the Sawmill Workers of Westland. If such is the case we feel sure their kindly action will he milch appreciated by the members of the Westland Hospital Hoard, l.asl hut not least the Rev. Perkins oil behalf nl the Church of England Men s 1 nioii visited the institution and gave each inmate a Christmas box.
