VALEDICTORY.
A pleasant function took place at the Town Hall on Thursday morning last when a number of citizens as sembled to bid farewell to Mr \Y. E. We they, who has been transferred to the Clinton branch of the Hank of New Zealand as manager. 11 is Worship lie .Mayor presided and after apologising for the absence of a number of citizens who were unable to attend ex pressed their regret at losing Mr Wothey, but congratulated him on his promotion. The Mayor then asked Mr Wethey to accept, as a small mark of their esteem, a gold fountain pen. gold pencil and wallet. The Mayor’s icnnirks were endorsed by Messrs '). Stewart, Garnet Perry, and W. I'--llichards. Mr Wethey feelingly acknowledged the good wishes expressed and referred to the kindness shown him whilst a resident of Hokitika, stating that he would always have very pleasant recollections of the town and district.
