WESTLAND RACING CLUB

MIDSUMMER. MEETING. The two days’ meeting of the Westland Racing Club opens on Ruxiug Day. There is an attractive card of entries lor the meeting. All tlie events have filled well, both in quality ns in quantity. There are more outside horses than usual, including a strong contingent from the North Island, while tlie Canterbury visitors are .well up to the average. The meeting will be held on the Hokitika racecourse, which just now is looking at its best. The grass track has had special attention, and the caretaker’s work speaks for itself. Visitors will be .surprised to find the going bo good. The appointments at the course ale very complete. This year they present a more attractive appearance than usual, as most of the buildings and a good deal of the fencing has been painted. Tlie complete painting will bo finished prior to the autumn meeting. Everything about the course is well found, and the fullest attention is shown to the wants of patrons. For the jockeys and riders" a .shower bath lias just been put in, and other eoliven iem os supplied about the course. The booths and refreshment room are made as commodious as possible. Tlie enlargement and complete furnishing of the refreshment room will be appreciated by patrons, the apartments being very comfortable. For the coming race meeting the local band will be in attendance on both clays. There i.s a full programme each day, the first event starting at noon. Reduced railway excursion fares will prevail, and a very convenient time-table will serve all parts cm the Westland section.
