The Assemble indignantly. restored the clause, and sent it hack to the Council, which decided to insist on deletion. The Assembly, though still indignant, swallowed the snub, and accepted the deletion. Both Tlouses have adjourned for Christmas.

SYDNEY. December 20. Waterside workers at Fremantle have broken the .Melbourne agreement by tefusing to work the steamer Clan Munroe. In this action they are defying the Afelbonurne headquarters of the I'niou, but are acting under instructions of Tom AValsh. Tre.sident of Brisbane. A conference between shipowners representatives and local branch of the Seamens Union discussed the points at issue in regard to the steamer, Canberra. The Union representatives stated unless the demands in regard to deferred pay were met unconditionally, they would not supply a crew. The shipowners said they would not agree to pay the claims. The seamen asked to be allowed till this morning to consider the position and then they would give the owners a definite answer. Some members of the crew of the "Bombala and C'ooma have also given notice of their intention to leave the vessels. Ir the meantime the necessary steps have been takn to pay olf the crews, if the seamens’ answer is not favourable.
DWYER'S DEATH. SYDNEY, December 20. Concerning the death ol .lames Dwyer at Lithgow, the police now believe Dwver took Ins own life while in a state of delirium tremins. The theory is that Dwyer pushed the penknife into his own body seventeen times, but on each occasion it did not penetrate futther than a rib. Later he plunged it into his throat but this is not sufficient to cause immediate death. lie commenced walking around and came across a large stone with a sharp point with this he caused injuries to his head. Dwyer’s staggering movement then was more pronounced. The fact that tlieie was only one set of footprints is considered strong evidence of suicide.
