Rcvenilier 20. .V man named Jackson who was convicted oil serious charges of theft of workmen’s tools and sentenced to one year’s imprisonment, requested the Judge to declare him an habitual criminal thereby securing a longer sentence. The Crown Prosecutor stated that Jackson considered three or four years spent- in gaol would remove him from temptation and give him an opportunity to reform and enable hint to start life again with the money, which is estimated at £3OO, earned during his tmpriaonmont.
The Judge, remarking on the largeness of the sum, said that when the amount became generally known we would he having an increase ill tlies applications, but lie granted Jackson's request.
