'RISE TN BEEF. {By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian). CHRISTCHURCH. December IS. Beef.—Tho total yarding of beef was approximately 530 'head, comprising mostly medium weight steers and varying qualities of cows. The market opened firm at an advance of 30s a head for good steers and heifers, but only showed a light advance oil tho medium quality cows. The general allround advance was for good l.eef 2s Gd to Its Oil per 100, rougher sorts about Is Oil i>or 100. Extra prime medium weight steers -15 s per 100, prime -10 s to -l:ts; prime heavy weights 37s to 39s 0(1; medium 31s to 37s Gd, lighter sorts 30s to 335. and rough sorts to 255. Values were: Extra prime steers Ll 9 to £2O 7s Gd. prime £IG 9s to £lB 10s, medium £l3 5s to CIG ss, light and rough steers from £9 10s to £l3 -Is, extra prime heifers £lO 2s Gd, prime £lO 5s to £l2 10s. rougher sorts £5 to £G 10s, extra prime cows £9 10s to £l3 1.3 s Gd, medium £7 to £9 ss. aged cows £3 5s to £O. Pigs—A very good yarding of porkers came forward and ns butchers were in

short supply a good sale resulted, prices showing an advance of quite 5s per head. There was only admail yarding of haeouers and prices for this class •showed a slight advance on late rates. Values: .Light porkers £2 8s to £2 12s, heavy £2 15s to £3. extra to £.3 10s, average price 7tl to 7'd; light weight lmcoiiers £3 10s to £3 17s Gd. heavy £1 to £1 Gs. average Gd to G',d: choppers made £2 10s to .£•! 15s. Store pigs, Quite a large yarding and prices for all classes were very satisfactory, selling freely at late rates. Values: Very small weaners 20s to 2-ls, extra to 31s, small stores 33s to 375. modum 39s to •15s, largo up to 50s Gd. No sows in pig were offering. Mutton.—Quito the largest yarding for several months comprising 13 races. The quality was of a lighter standard with some well finished wethers. ' The market opened firmly and prices were slightly in advance of late* rates. Butchers operated freely over the earlier stages and their wants were pretty well supplied' about three parts through when the market eased. Only one firm of exporters operated freely and through the later stages Prices eased about 2s Gd a head. Values were:

A large entry came forward including a number of drafts from Southland and tlie Sounds. Store Sheep. The olferiug consisted principally of wethers; also several lots of woolly ewes with lambs. The market opened rather weakly, hut soon firmed and prices ruling were on a par with last weeks’ rates, all classes of ewes and lambs, also store lambs, sold very readilv. several lots of lambs making over 395. Store Cattle.—A large yarding, including a good many young hellers, the demand being fairly good.
